The Food Recovery Network: College Students Could Solve the Hunger Crisis in America

Hello my viewers,

Approximately 50 million Americans don't have enough food to eat. In this country, we waste around 700 billion pounds of food each year. If we donated just 15% of that wasted food each year, we would cut our nation's hunger crisis in half.

In the fall of 2011 at the University of Maryland, Ben Simon noticed that perfectly good excess food from the dining hall was going straight into the trash. They were blown away to find 100-200 pounds of food being tossed into the dumpster each night. Thus, the Food Recovery Network was born and has since grown into a national organization with chapters on 21 college campuses! Yet another example of a small group of concerned citizens changing the world.
